Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Is it worth fixing a bike?

It depends on the type of bike and what the issues are. Our bike mechanics can repair all bicycle makes and models, but if the bike's frame has more than just surface rust, damaged threads, bent or cracked rim or seized parts that are likely to need replacing, it is not worth it. However, at Highway Cycles, we understand the cost implications, and that's why we not only stock a wide range of bicycles, from e-bikes to traditional models but also stock second-hand bikes! Contact us today or visit us in-store so we can help you find the best option.

When should I get my bike serviced?

We recommend booking your first bike service after three months of riding. Those initial adjustments and checks are extra important when it comes to ensuring a smooth ride every day. After this initial service, a full service should be carried out every 12 months, with a minor check-up at the end of every season. Whilst this is just a recommendation, it depends on the conditions that you are riding in. Heavy use, rain, mud and dust can all mean more frequent servicing. It is always worth keeping up with good bike maintenance habits that will save you money down the road!

How long do bike repairs take?

We advise our customers to drop their bikes off to us between 9 am and 10 am, Monday to Friday. If your repair is a minor repair, we can complete it on the same day. Whilst we stock a plethora of bike parts, we may need to order specific parts that may take some time. We will always keep you up to date and informed of the process of your bike repair.

Why do I need bike maintenance?

It is critical to carry out maintenance checks to avoid costly repairs down the line and prevent riding an unsafe bicycle and causing injuries. Our fully qualified technicians carry out a variety of checks to make sure everything is working in order to ensure a smooth and enjoyable ride. We advise bringing your bike in twice a year to ensure everything is inspected correctly.

Our most common bike repair services include fixing flat tyres, reattaching slipped chains, tightening loose bolts and fixing broken pedals. We also provide a variety of other bike repairs, so please reach out to our team about your requirements, and we can get you booked in.
